Public
Service Summit Report
The
Public Service Summit was held 11 to 13 March 2010 at Durban's Inkosi
Albert Luthuli International Conference Centre, Durban. The theme of the
Summit "Positioning the Public Service towards a development state
through effective service delivery".
The
purpose of the summit was to provide and opportunity for interaction and
dialogue between and among social partners, namely the employer and labour
representatives on the following:
Resourcing
of the public service in health, education and criminal justice sectors
- Performance
improvements in the public service
- Improved
working environment/conditions
- Youth
employment
- Outsourcing
and agentisation
- Remuneration
policy and strenghtening collective bargaining structures
Backgound
to the Summit
The
Public Service Summit forms part of Resolution 1 of 2007, after the longest
public service strike ever in 2007 where the parties government and trade
unions realised the need to strengthen relations to achieve the task of
transforming the public service. The parties also realised the need for
disccussion on wider issues that go beyond wages and working conditions
in the public service.
