Public Service Negotiations Update

Update - 2010 PAWUSA’s Public Service Strike Action

PAWUSA members, shop stewards and leaders are requested to note that PAWUSA together with the COSATU affiliated public service unions and the Independent Labour Caucus (ILC) have called for a total shutdown of service delivery points from 19 August 2010 and the establishment of picketing lines at major workplaces as well as marches in all provinces on 26 August 2010.

Members should note that there is no truth in the rumours that the employer have made an offer of 9% which the unions have rejected. The offer of the employer is still at 7% and a Housing Allowance of R700, the employer have not changed on the implementation on 1 July, an offer that was rejected by the majority of PAWUSA members.

PAWUSA and other unions have made it that our major points of contention are as follows:

  • The final offer
  • The refusal to move the implementation to 1 April, to align increases with government budget cycle
  • The medical aid subsidy for pensioners
  • The outstanding issues of Resolution 1 of 2007, such as housing for public service workers
  • Equalisation of Medical Aid subsidies

We appeal to PAWUSA members to mobilize and support for the strike actions in order to achieve our demands for an 8.6% increase, a Housing Allowance of R1000 and the implementation date of 1 April.
